Petrol is basically used as a fuel in engines especially automobiles. Petrol contains aliphatic hydrocarbons along with iso-octane, toluene, benzene etc. Along with that it may also contain ethanol.

It is basically a refined substance as it is refined from crude oil. And Paraffin, Naphthene, olefins are added to it later on. Some other organic compounds like organic ether, sulfur compounds like disulfides, thiophenes etc are also added to this mixture.

It has a density of  0.71–0.77 and it also floats on water. It is highly volatile and also floats on water due to its density. Lead which is the most dangerous contaminant of its environment is also an important part of petrol.
