Everyone will have their own answer to this. Speaking from experience (I went from 240 pounds down to 155), the trick is use both diet and exercise.
First, exercise. Find something that you enjoy doing--even walking. Start off slow as to not overdo and burn yourself out on "having" to exercise. Walk for ten minutes (at a good rate--don't go too fast or too slow) two days a week. After the first couple of weeks, either add another day or add another 5 to 10 minutes of walking time. Keep titrating up until you are doing this until you get to walking/exercising a minimum of five days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each time--preferably even more days and longer duration. Another good way to prevent being burned out is to find two things you enjoy and alternate them.
For diet--first take inventory of what you eat and drink. My big problem was the two bottles of cola every day. Eliminating that helped, but wasn't the only solution. Also, watch what you eat...you can have ice cream and other "bad for you" foods, but not every day. If you have a craving for ice cream, ignore it the first time and don't give in. The craving will pass. The second time you get the craving, remind yourself what your goal is, and the third time you get the craving is the time you should cave in and allow yourself to have it. Eat more foods that you know are good for you but that you may not be too thrilled about. Or even pickles, if you like those. The sodium content is extremely high on them, so don't eat too many, but the calories are low.
I also graphed my weight. I would weigh myself weekly on Sunday mornings before I ate and mark it on graph paper. My weight didn't go down weekly. Sometimes it was the same (or virtually the same), and sometimes my weight would go up. But it serves as a visual reinforcement that my weight is going down even if I looked and felt no different. Just don't lose hope or give up if you have a week or two or three that you gain weight, as long as the overall direction is down. If your weight is increasing for more than three weeks, then you need to reassess the changes you are making.
Which brings me to my final point. Don't think of this as a diet or a weight loss program. It's not. It is a lifestyle modification. You can't do it just to lose that extra five pounds and then go back to what you did before. If you do, you will gain back that five pounds plus some. Don't have nothing but an apple for lunch unless you can visualize yourself only having an apple for lunch for the rest of your life. If you aren't going to change the way you live your life, then why bother trying to lose weight because you will gain it back.

I think you have to reduce your high-cholesterol meal...exercising regularly...follow the food pyramids...but the most important thing is..neva push yourself too hard if you cant do all of it at the same time...try to do it slowly...i sure you can do you it...and by the way...good luck!!!
