4 1/8 ÷ 3/4... Well, first you'd convert the number to a fraction, so 4 1/8 becomes 33/8 (because each 1 value of the 4 is equal to 8/8), and as the numerator (33) cannot be divided by 2, the common denominator would be 8, so 3/4 becomes 6/8 (multiply BOTH the numerator AND the denominator by 2), so your problem becomes 33/8 ÷ 6/8... Then, as the old axiom I learned in school goes, 'Ours is not to wonder why, just invert and multiply'... Meaning that to divide fractions, you invert the second fraction and multiply across as normal, so...

      33      6                 33       8        264           24         1
      8
      ÷   8   becomes  8   x   6   =   48   =   5  48  = 5  2

Then multiply across both the top and bottom, to get 264/48, and reduce. 48 goes into 264, 5 times with a remainder of 24, and reduce the 24/48, to get 1/2. Thus, your final answer is 5 1/2. The same answer given by 'Guest' above, but I like to think I explained how to get there a little better... (^_^)

Hope that helps, and you have a great day!
