The amount of people on the internet slows it down to make it impossible to get on at times. Peace

Each connection has a limited bandwidth.
If you're on a network, probably there is someone else on the same network using most of the bandwidth (downloading large files can do that).
Also, probably it's the destination server that is getting a lot of traffic, so the allocated bandwidth is used, and that causes a delay in response until traffic decreases.
