What Does WAP Stand For?

WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. WAP basically is an international standard for function that generally uses wireless contact. Its prime use is to allow internet access from a cell phone or a PDA.

A WAP browser is made in such a way that it provides the user with all the necessary services that a computer web browser has to offer, it is simplified to function within the limits of a cell phone.

A large number of mobile internet sites around the globe use WAP as a protocol. I-mode system which was launched by Japan is the only competing technology of wireless data protocol. Initially prior to WAP, service providers had very less opportunities to present interactive data services. The better and newer version of WAP basically is a re-structuring of WAP via a cut down version of XHTML and has basic end-to-end HTTP.
