Can Frank Lampard And Steven Gerrard Play In The Same England Side?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In relation to recent results the answer would have to be no.  Performances since Steve McClaren has taken over as manager of England have got worse than they were under Sven Goran Ericksson.

McClaren's biggest problem is he has no previous experience of being responsible for a team of superstar footballers.  His only previous job of management has come at Middlesbrough, and in fairness to the Teesider's, they are not a club packed with high quality players.

Whilst even the most ardent of Chelsea fans would struggle to argue Gerrards worth in the team, but sadly the Liverpool player is a victim of his own success at both club and international level.  Gerrard is far too diverse, he can play practically anywhere on the pitch, but this means he is the first to be sacrificed positionally when team selection is considered.

For England to move forward McClaren has to be brave and leave one of them out if only on a trial basis.
