What Pain Killers Can I Give My Dog?

    There are variety of reasons of pain in dogs. Pain in dogs is divided in to 2 broad categories like acute and chronic pain. Many pain killers are available and can be used in dogs but self medication can be harmful for your dog. Majority of the pain killers are over the counter but use of any medicine over the counter or prescription should be used under the supervision of vet because all these drugs can be toxic. Some common pain killers that can be used in dogs are given below. Remember, all following drugs can be toxic, some are more toxic and some less toxic.

    1. Naproxen
    2. Aspirin
    3. Ibuprofen
    4. Piroxicam
    5. Ketoprofen
    6. Etodolac
    7. Tolfenamic acid
    8. Meloxicam
    9. Cox1 and cox2 inhibitors
    For dose and supervision, visit your local vet.

      The only pain killer you should give your dog without consulting a vet would be low dose aspirin.
