How Does A Radio Station Work?

A radio station is an audio broadcasting or sound broadcasting service. A radio station broadcasts radio programmes through the air as radio waves. Radio waves are a type of electromagnetic radiation. The radio waves broadcast the programmes through the air from a transmitter to an antenna, and then finally to a receiving device, that is a radio set.

There can be a linking of radio stations in a radio network. Common programmes can be broadcast through this linked network of radio stations. These programmes are broadcast either through the simulcast (simultaneous broadcast) method or in syndication, and are also sometimes broadcast using a combination of the two methods.

Nowadays, radio programmes are also broadcast using the FM (Frequency Modulation), AM (Amplitude Modulation), cable FM, local wire networks, digital radio broadcasting, satellite networks and the Internet. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) has an entire schedule of radio programmes broadcast via shortwave.
