This Question Is Answered:
What Does The Family Name Berdan Mean, Where Did It Originate, And What Are Variations In Spelling?
I'm searching for parents and/or siblings of Albert Berdan, born about 13 Sep 1816 in what is now Canada. Based on oral history it was said parents were probably from France but their family name was perhaps not Berdan. Albert Berdan became a sailor on Great Lakes about 1829, married Statira Conley in Geauga, County, Ohio 1837. They lived at Fairport, Lake County, Ohio until 1845, than moved to Illinois until 1857, then moved to MN. Albert died in Northfield, Rice County, Minn 25 Dec 1898 and Statira in 1899.

The family name Berden is a Variant of the French name Bardin. In French it was used to refer to a pet form of the Germanic Personal name called Bardo. Which means Battle Axe.
