Many men start to lose their hair from their head as they get into middle age. It is generally as a result of aging, combined with hormonal changes and is influenced by genetics. Some men start to go bald earlier, in their twenties, and their baldness tends to be more comprehensive than men who start to thin in their 50s.

Burns to the head or injuries that cut the blood supply to the scalp can also result in patches of baldness that do not follow the normal pattern. This type of baldness is the most likely to be treated by hair transplants.

People often cite factors such as poor circulation, vitamin deficiencies, hair products, drugs taken for other conditions, wearing hats and all sorts of things as a reason for their baldness, but, in truth, there is very little men can do to avoid it without resorting to hormone altering drug therapy.
