The forest of Sherwood is a world famous country park; it surrounds the village of Edwinstowe. It is located in Nottinghamshire, England. The Sherwood spreads over 460-acres of land. Today the park is a small remnant of a much bigger hunting forest. It used to extend into many neighboring counties. The Sherwood County Park was made open for tourists in the year 1969; this decision was taken by the Nottinghamshire County Council. In the year 2002 the forest was selected as a Natural Nature Reserve by English Nature.

Sherwood Forest is a very popular tourist destination; it attracts a crowd of 550,100 tourists every year. The forest is also associated with a very famous legend, that of Robin Hood. It is said that Robin Hood resided in this forest. His main hide out was in the Legendary 'Major Oak'. The 'Major Oak' tree has been present in the forest from the past 1000 years.

In the February of 1998 a local company took some small cuttings from the Major Oak tree, they have started making clones of the tree and are planning to plant the saplings in major cities all around the world.
