What Does The Name Honduras Mean?

The name Honduras means "depths" for the deep water. Honduras is officially known as the Republic of Honduras, it was earlier also known as Spanish Honduras. It is a country that is situated in Central America, where it shares its land borders with Guatemala to the west, El Salvador to the southwest, Nicaragua to the southeast, Pacific Ocean, at the Golf of Fonseca to the south and Gulf of Honduras and the Caribbean Sea,  to the north.

The climate of this region is tropical in lowlands and temperate in the mountains. The temperature in the central as well as southern regions is much hotter and is less humid n comparison to the northern coast. The natural resources found here comprises of timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, antimony, coal, fish, shrimp, and hydropower.
