Carla Lane is a successful comedy writer who was born in Liverpool in 1937.  She has written 14 comedy series starting in 1969 with The Liver Birds.

She has also written short stories and radio scripts but it is her comedy writing for television that she is best known for,

From 1969 until 1979, The Liver Birds, set in Liverpool was one of her most popular series.  Myra Taylor was one of the stars of this show and she featured in Bless This House, another Carla Lane comedy from 1971 – 1976.

"No Strings", Going, Going, Gone.. Free?" and Three Piece Suite also ran briefly during the 1970s before her next big comedy hit "Butterflies" started in 1979.

This series starred Wendy Craig, Geoffrey Palmer, and Nicholas Lyndhurst in the day to day life of the Parkinsons.  It was written in the bittersweet style that was Carla Lane's style and was also the inspiration behind the comedy series "My Family".

"The Last Song", "Solo", "Leaving", and "The Mistress" followed before her next prime time comedy "Bread" became a huge hit in 1986.  "Bread" was about the lives of the Boswell family, a Liverpool family trying to make ends meet in 1980s Thatcherite Britain.

Her final two series were "Luv" and "Searching" in 1993 and 1995 respectively.
