Phillip Pullman is a successful children's author who was born in England in 1942. His family travelled extensively and so he received a varied education in England, Zimbabwe, Australia and Wales, before attending Exeter College, Oxford to read English.
Phillip Pullman“s working life began as a primary school teacher in 1971. His first children's book "Count Karlstein" was published in 1982, and since then he is the author of over 20 children's books. He is also the writer of many short stories, also aimed at children.
His most famous creation is the "His Dark materials" trilogy. This trilogy earned Phillip Pullman several awards including The Guardian Children's Book award, the Carnegie medal and the Whitbread Book of the Year. This made history as it was the first ever children's book to receive the prize. Phillip Pullman was also honoured with the Eleanor Farjeon Award for children's literature in 2002, and continues his writing career to this day.
