Barnekunstmuseum is the name of the world's only children's art museum which is based on the outskirts of Oslo. The collection of the International Museum of Children's Art is housed in a converted three story house which also focuses on the appeal for child visitors. It is voted as one of the best unusual museums in the world.
When you enter you have to remove your shoes. The place is packed full of a vast array of artistic pieces ranging from collage and sculptures to Russian wooden dolls and watercolours. The paintings are framed and each piece is treated with utmost respect. The works acknowledge every corner of the globe and the level of skill is outstanding. You would not think that many of the works were completed by children.
The layout itself is amazing, with objects hung in every opportune place. Each room is themed and at time it feels like a Santa's grotto. It successfully and attractively achieves it aim of collecting, preserving and promoting children's art. The museum is also involved in global projects that brig art to all cultures, funds projects in disadvantaged areas and it holds workshops for visitors also.
