    The chief justice of the US Supreme Court is actually the head of the judicial branch of the US government and heads the supreme court of the country as well. Currently, John J. Roberts junior is the Chief justice and he has been in office since the September of 2005. He was appointed by George W. Bush and this appointment was seconded by the senate making him the chief justice. The salary of the chief justices is $ 217,400 annually. The chief justice only change in case of death, resignation or removed when found to be involved in inappropriate behavior other wise the office bearer does not change. The chief justice presides over president’s impeachment trials, administers the presidential oath and chairs conferences.
