Where Is Salmesbury Hall?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Samlesbury Hall is a haunted house in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. It is near Preston and the house dates back to the fifteenth or the sixteenth century and unlike many houses during that time is built with timber and black and white exterior.

The hall is allegedly haunted by a ghost known as the "White Lady".  The White Lady is supposedly Lady Dorothy Southworth. Her father Sir John Southworth owned Samlesbury Hall during that time and was also the Sheriff of Lancashire.

Lady Dorothy's family was staunchly Catholic but she fell in love with a Protestant. This news reached her family and her love was killed in a fight while she was sent to a convent where she became insane and died. It is popular belief that she roams around the house and visits her lover's grave. Many claim that they have heard the sound of weeping and the rustle of skirts in corridors and gallery.
