A hypotonic solution has more water than the inside of the cell. So the cell will absorb water until the concentration evens out. I.e., it becomes isotonic with the external environment. Now, if it is an animal cell, it may actually burst before it reaches that isotonic state, whereas a plant cell will become turgid rather than burst because of osmotic pressure exerted by the cell wall. Explains why supermarkets spray water on their vegetables to make them look fresh.
