The Microsoft is a relatively new product and as yet is not really comparable in any real way against the IPod, which has been around long enough to resolve many of issues that arise from having an portable media player.V
Visually, the IPod and Zune are both attractive, with the IPod's product design just pipping the Zune, leaving it playing second fiddle physically.
The costs are reasonably similar, but it's in the specifics that there differences lie. I will compare the Zune to the 30GB IPod.
The Zune is a half inch larger, which makes a big difference to the way it looks. IPod however is lighter. However the Zune has a couple of sexy features that Apple should be looking embarrassed about. The first is an FM radio built in to the Zune and the second is that it is WIFI compatible, allowing wireless song downloading. Obviously, there Zune is one size fits all, so you can't buy a Zune Shuffle or a Zune Nano.
A Zune's max size is also a problem, at the moment, the largest size is 30GB, whereas Apple has 60 and 80GB IPods, able to store some of those large video files.
Finally, although the Zune is an exciting development in media player technology, the IPod and its supporting structures still win out. In particular, Zune is made by Microsoft and I just trust Apple much, much more with my money.
