    Shropshire is a county in England and is situated in the West Midlands region in the United Kingdom. The county town of Shropshire is Shrewbury and Telford is the largest town. The county is notable for its industrial sites which are located throughout the county. The Ironbridge Gorge area of this county is considered as the birthplace of industry and it is also a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO.

    The county is the most sparsely populated and its population as estimated in the year 2005 is only 450,700. The area of the county is 3,487 square kilometers. Geographically the county is divided into two regions North Shropshire and South Shropshire. North comprise of Oswestry district, North Shropshire district, Shrewsbury, Atcham Borough and the boroughs of Telford and Wrekin. South composed of South Shropshire district and Ludlow constituency of Bridgenorth district.
