Which Stations Does The Hammersmith And City Line Of The London Underground Serve?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Hammersmith and City line on the London Underground starts at Hammersmith in the west and terminates at Barking in the east. It serves 28 stations inbetween, including Paddington, Baker Street, King's Cross, Liverpool Street and Mile End. The line covers approximately 16.5 miles of track and uses 17 trains during the peak periods.

Trains have run from Hammersmith to the City, since 1864, however the line was originally part of the Metropolitan line. It changed it's name in 1988 to the Hammersmith & City line. Since 1936, trains have run from Hammersmith, through the City and on from Whitechapel to Barking in the east, but they run on District Line tracks.

On a typical weekday, passenger numbers on the Hammersmith & City are approximately 149,000 people. On a Saturday, you could expect 94,000 people to use the line and 53,000 on a Sunday. On an annual basis, figures reach 45.8 million people.
