    Medellin is a city in Colombia. It is the capital of the Antioquia Department in Colombia. The founder of the city of Medellin was Francisco Herrera y Campuzano. The city of Medellin was established in the year 1616. As of the year 2006, according to the census of population, the city of Medellin has a total population of 2, 223, 078. It is the second-most populated city in Colombia after the country's capital, Bogota.

    The city of Medellin is known by different nicknames, such as The City of Everlasting Spring, Mountain's Capital, City of the Flowers, Orchids Capital, Beautiful Village, Little Silver Cup and Medallo. It is the core of the Valle de Aburra (Aburra Valley) metropolitan area. Until the late 1990's, the city of Medellin was the hotbed of international drug trafficking organisations run by powerful Colombian druglords. One of these was the Medellin Cartel, which was headed by Pablo Escobar.
