This does sometimes happen, and can be a sign of illness, though if you've had changes in your house and furniture it may well be a reaction to that - even an attempt to mark out their territory again after the disturbances? This website has very detailed suggestions on possible causes of this behaviour. You may want to take your cat to a vet as well, especially if you think there are signs of illness.

I agree with wordy. If kitty goes in and out- It may be a urinary tract infection, in which case you'll need antibiotics. (the vet) Cat urine smell isn't something you want around. You can knock that back by vinegar washing, and spray vinegar on it. You'll only smell the vinegar for a day or so, but it will dissipate. It's better than cat pee.
