Some dos and donts for acting for amateurs:
DO:
find something to do as an objective in your scene
speak up and face front unless the director tells you otherwise
be willing to invest in the production, time and energy are required
enjoy the social aspect of amateur dramatics
read the play a few times, so that your choices and decisions are based on the play, not your imagination.
learn your lines nice and early so you are depended upon
DONT
spend all your time trying to avoid doing what's required of you
skip rehearsals, it's impossible to work without you
see the director as an authority figure, they are your friend, your colleague, someone who should help you reach the performance that you need.
be ungracious if you don't get the role that you want, it's not personal
bad talk other actors or the director.
