Agricultural development bank of Pakistan (ADBP) was established in 1961. The main purpose of this bank is to provide short, medium and long term loans to the farmers for the purchase of high yield seeds, chemical fertilizers, insecticide and agricultural machinery.
ADBP advances loans on the basis of land mortgage or on the personal security. This bank issues loans through Mobile credit officers. Each M. C. O. is in charge of 10 to 15 villages for the distribution of loans.
Management: The affairs of the bank are entrusted to a board of 13 Directors consisting
Of the managing director and six others appointed by the central govt. and six other by the share holder. There are 125 offices of this bank through out the country. Its head office is at Karachi.
Other Functions:
a). The bank is authorized to accept deposit from the people.
b). The bank safeguards the ornaments and special documents of the peoples.
c). The bank performs the services in connection with the research and the training of banking officials.
In order to increase the performances of this bank, Kisan banking windows are established which provides agricultural credit to the farmers on easy terms. Moreover, the Awami tractor scheme will increase the farm mechanization in the country.
In case of default the bank charges 2 percent recovery charges and additional 2 percent penal interest.
