What Is "Aero"?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Aero is a new user interface option available in Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system. It features sophisticated graphical effects such as translucency, live thumbnails, animation and lighting. Translucency, in fact, is the key element of the Aero interface and its use is pervasive in the Vista operating system when running at its full potential.

Aero will not be available in the Home Basic version of the Windows Vista operating system. It will be an option which can be turned on or off in other versions of the software. Because Aero is more demanding of the PC hardware than the operating system as a whole, some PCs will not be able to support it. In general, it requires a reasonably modern graphics card with at least 128 Megabytes of graphics memory, capable of supporting Direct X 9.0 with a WDDM driver and Pixel Shader 2.0.
