Patriotism is one of those virtues, which are ranked very high. The love and attachment to one's mother land, although an emotional state, is appreciated by all. Since the beginning of human consciousness, human beings react differently in this regard, but those who betray their country are always cursed and become a prey to loath some attitude of the public. Those who love their mother land and some time have to face hardships ad difficulties even have to sacrifice their lives for it are always held in good esteem I the eyes of their countrymen.

Those who work for the good of their land are usually remembered in good sense, monuments are built for them and their statues are erected to pay homage to them. All over the world people appreciate and respect patriots. The poets write verses to glorify them.

The patriots, in the other hand sometimes have to bear hardships, suffer losses and receive momentary disrespect and mental torture. They are jeered and sneered at by victorious traitors. But in the long run the patriots gain respect and honors even after death. The history makes them heroes and they gain an image of real worth in the eyes of the people of every age. Patriotism is such a sublime feeling that can only be felt by noble souls. The mean and selfish souls cannot have that finer sensibility that can touch his sublime. The patriot are regarded honorable by their respective countrymen.

Patriotism means love of country. It is a scared and ennobling emotion which binds man to the land of his birth. It is a place where a person finds recollections and hopes, dreams and aspirations. It is our loving place where we would enjoy watching the fleeting clouds, and wonders. It is the place where we have the opportunity to listen to the sweet music of the birds, and wish to have wings to fly, to remote lands and the place where we may sit at mother's knee, captured by wonderful tales of great deeds and conquests.

Patriotism is a feature of both civilized and savage nations. It is instinctive in nature and draws man to land of his forefathers. In psychological terms it is perhaps akin to love the mother—the repository of love and security.

Patriotism demands the fulfilment of certain obligations: it demands the sacrifice of self-interest, selfless service to the country, identification of personal aspirations with national ideas and hatred of tyranny.

Patriotism is not an end in itself. It should not be the outcome of a militant form of nationalism and must be conditioned by respect for humanity.
