This sounds very similar to ringworm. I had a similar experience with my dog and a quick trip to the vet solved the problem. Your vet will need to perform some tests to prove that it really is ring work and will likely prescribe you an anti-fungal to treat it! Be careful it's contagious and humans can contract it from dogs.
