Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Making beer is a natural fermentation process, however, it is suppose to be done is highly monitored and controlled environment. The main ingredient in beer is fresh water. Another important ingredient is malt which is made by soaking and germinating barley. Malt is crushed (not ground) and added to water in a large tank. The water is kept warm and the temperature is controlled. This process is called mashing.

The mashed mixture is then transferred to a vessel for straining. The strained liquid called "wort" is then taken to the brewing kettle. Brew kettles are made of stainless steel and is used to boil wort for about 2 hours. Hop resins are then added for flavour and the bitter taste we get when we taste beer. The wort is left to cool in a plate cooler. Finally the wort is taken to the vessel where it is left for fermentation. Yeast is added which is the key fermentation ingredient. Fermentation takes about 7 to 10 days after which the yeast is removed. Beer is stored for three weeks before it is bottled.
