What Risks Should I Cover When Getting Insurance For My Van?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The risks for a van being used commercially are the same as for a household car but there are extra items that need to be covered. What cover you get depends on exactly what sort of work you are doing with the van.

If you are carrying tools and equipment that you use when you are working, you will need to ask for these to be insured, unless they are very cheap and easy to replace. This is known as 'tools cover'. If you carry other people's items, perhaps if you are running a delivery service, then you will need to get 'goods in transit' insurance to cover those.

You might also want to consider public liability, which will cover you for damage that you cause to other people, or to their property, while you are working. You should also ensure that, if you have people working directly for you, that your and employer's liability insurance covers your employees while they are using your vehicle.
