The trip scheduled for Mexico during spring break has been cancelled due to the bankruptcy of the bus company. You must tell 25 of your classmates that the trip has been cancelled and that they have lost their $100 deposit. How will you convey the information and still uphold their goodwill toward you?

There are to many variables. Who is it that came up with the plan to go? Who hired the bus company?
I would get everyone together and let them all know that there is a problem. The problem is well out of your hands and that you have done everything you can to get their money back. Ask them all for help as you are not sure what else can be done.
This sounds like it can be a very good learning experience for everyone involved and yes, some will be unhappy but if they know that it is not your fault, they will forgive you in time. Some people may be more concerned about money and that is very unfortunate but better that they move on as they are not the kind of friends to have.
