    Henry Villard was the founder of the 'Edison General Electric Co.'. He was a German born United States financier as well as a journalist. He bought two Edison companies and united them as the 'Edison General Electric Co.' in the year of 1889. He was also the founding president of the company. The company was reorganized in the year of 1892 as the 'General Electric Co.' in spite of its earlier name.

    Henry Villard was born on 10th of April in the year of 1835 in Bavaria. He came in United States in the year of 1853. He started his work with a German language news paper. He was a journalist for two New York City news paper during the time of civil war. In the year of 1881, he bought 'the nations magazine' and 'New York evening post'. Villard controlled several railroads in Oregon in the years of 1870s. He was the president of the Northern Pacific railroad from the year of 1881 to 1884. Under the management of Henry Villard, a transcontinental railroad was completed in spite of large cost overruns. In the year of 1888, he was elected as the chairman of the board and stayed at the post till 1893.

    Henry Villard was died on 12th of November in the year of 1900 at Dobbs Ferry in New York.
