US satellite to be launched into space was named Explorer 1. It was launched on
1st February in the year 1958. It was launched into space from the Cape
Canaveral Air Force Station. The duration
of its mission was 111 days and had a mass of 13.97 kilogram. Its orbital
period was 114.8 minutes. The satellite program had been started in the year
1954 but the actual efforts began in response to the launch of Sputnik I by the
Soviet Union.
