The word "tadpole" refers to a stage in the growth life cycle of frogs and toads. It is a larva stage in which the animal survives under water and breathes through gills. Tadpoles feed on mostly plant matter but some species are omnivorous as well. They lack any feet or hands but instead have a tail fin. As the tadpole starts developing into a frog or toad, it losses the tail fin and starts to develop other extremities in the form of limbs and feet.

From a tiny egg to a larva that is moistly herbivorous to an adult frog or toad that is carnivorous. The frog goes through some amazing changes in its growth stages. Tadpoles are favoured pets of little boys as are frogs and toads.
