The gestation cycle in dogs is 64-66 days-so a little over 2
months. Pregnancy can be detected by
palpation (feeling) of the abdomen around day 25-30. On x-ray uterine enlargement is noted between
days 21-42. The fetal bones calcify
around day 45 so the babies can be seen and counted then. Ultrasound can be used to detect pregnancy is
some bitches at day 20-22 but is most accurate at day 26 or later.
