It's very important to keep young kittens warm, but you need to give him a way to get away from the heat source. Assuming you've prepared a nest box for him, a good method is to take a hot water bottle and wrap it in a towel, then put it in the box so that there is some towel that isn't covering the bottle free for the kitten to crawl onto. Don't put a heat lamp over the box that he can't get away from...because he's so small, his internal temperature can reach a dangerous level very quickly.

In addition to the kitten food you're providing, make sure he always has a source of fresh water (in a container that is shallow enough that the chance of his drowning is minimized). If he is already using the litter box and eating the kitten food, he may be older than you think. Kittens come in different sizes, just like people.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you need to keep the kitten safe. It's better to let him stay in his nest box unless you can supervise his wandering. When he gets a little bigger, it would be great if you could put the nest box together with his litter box and food and water bowls in a room where you can leave the door closed (an extra bathroom, maybe?). That will give the kitten a chance to explore his surroundings in a controlled environment until he gets stronger.

If you can't/don't want to keep the kitten, you may want to look for an animal humane society or a no-kill shelter in your area that will take your abandoned kitten and care for him. Make sure that it is a no-kill shelter, though. If you can keep the kitten, you will need to take him to the vet at some point for a general check-up and to get his vaccinations. I also recommend having him neutered, as there are many benefits to doing so. While it may cost some money to have him looked at by a vet, it would be well worth the cost, in my opinion. Also, a vet can give you a pretty good idea of how old your kitten is by seeing him.

Good luck with your little friend...there's a saying that if a cat chooses you to be his person, it's a sign of good luck! And the kitten would definitely be lucky to have a loving home with you.

Protect her from sun and from the extreme environment. Give her milk, bones and light food. Protect her from other animals like big cats and dogs.
