Are Copperheads Born With Cat-like Eyes Or Do Their Eyes Change As They Go Into Adulthood?
I just had a snake come into my house. Thinking it was some type of gardener snake (due to the round eyes) I picked it up. It has the exact markings of a copperhead, including the yellow tail found on the babies. Are copperheads born with cat-like eyes or do their eyes change as they go into adulthood?
Answers
I am fairly certain that a copperhead is born with the cat like eyes. The yellow juvenile tail is certainly a distinctive feature that Copperheads do have. One snake that could be mistaken for a copperhead baby is the Cottonmouth. This type of snake also posses the yellowish juvenile tail and it looks very similar to a Copperhead.
