According to the BabyCentre baby names list, the top ten girls' names in 2004 were as follows: Emma, Madison, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Emily, Olivia, Isabella, Hannah, Sarah and Abigail. The previous year (that is, in 2003) the list of the top ten girls' names were as follows: Emily, Emma, Madison, Hannah, Hailey, Sarah, Kaitlyn, Isabella, Olivia and Abigail. Hence, while the popularity of Emma, the first runner-up in 2003 rose by one position to top the list and in 2004 and Madison, the second runner-up in 2003 came second in the 2004 poll, the most dramatic fall was that of the name Emily, which topped the poll in 2003 and came third in 2004–a loss of two positions. Kaitlyn moved up three spots from seventh place in 2003 to fourth place in 2004, Hailey stayed at the fifth spot in both the years, Olivia moved up three spots from ninth place in 2003 to sixth place in 2004, Isabella moved up one spot from eighth place in 2003 to seventh place in 2004, Hannah dropped down four spots from fourth place in 2003 to eighth place in 2004, Sarah dropped down three spots from sixth place in 2003 to ninth place in 2004 and Abigail stayed in the tenth place in both the years.
