Why Do Some Cats Hate Dogs?

It's just a matter of whether or not the cats and dog have been raised together. If a cat hasn't been raised with a dog, then when the cat meets the dog for the first time, it is going to be very upset about it. Dogs are the same way around cats, if they aren't raised together, a dog might literally want to kill the cat.
If they have lived together all their lives, then they are most likely to be good friends. Hope this helps.

I agree with tiggersmom but I might word it more generally and just say that they are the major competitors for human affection.
