Semicolon is one of the signs in the English language that has various uses and which is why it is considered as among the most important signs.

The first use you can have of this sign is that when you want to explain something that is a part of the main sentence that you have written. Following sentence can make you understand it well: He likes the women with beautiful eyes; his girlfriend has beautiful eyes.

Sometimes you can also use the sign instead of comma when you feel that there are a great number of commas in a sentence. One other use that is also of importance is that when you are citing a number of things after the colon sign, you can use semicolon for better effect.
