Christianity like any other religion has its own set of rules that are propounded via the authority of the Church. The Roman Catholic Church has its roots during the medieval time in Rome, which was then called the Holy Roman Empire. The strength of the Church grew as more and more people vested the practising monks with complete authority. In time, the Roman Catholic Church, with the Pope as its head has pre-determined the process for a lay man or woman becoming a Roman Catholic priest or nun.

It is recommended by the Pope that a novice wanting to become a nun has to live in the convent for a pre-determined time span, usually a year. The idea behind this is to test the person's commitment to the service of God, the ability to perform humble tasks without ego and above all, lead a life of prayer and worship. The novice is expected to eat simple meals and wear ordinary clothes. She is expected to be able to sacrifice the self for the service of humanity and remain unbiased in every situation. On completion of the pre-determined 'test' phase in the nunnery, the young woman, or even old, is then initiated officially into the order.

Go to the Catholic church, talk to them. Or you can call them, they usually have phones in the church so as to conduct their business. Great choice for life. Hope this helps, good luck.
