"A.J. Wentworth, BA" was Arthur Lowe's last sitcom. Arthur Lowe died in April 1982 and the series was aired posthumously. Arthur Lowe's carrier has spanned four decades from the 1940s to the 1980s. He has stared in over 80 productions and is best remembered for his role in the 1960s comedy series Dad's army. He must have gained from his experience as a veteran of the Second World War when he started his life serving in the Middle East for the British Army.

He was supposed to be perfect for the role in A J Wentworth where he played an accident prone but warm hearted mathematics professor in a preparatory school for boys set in Burgrove in Rural England. The ordeal he faces at the hands of the mischievous boys, his fellow teachers and the stern headmaster go to make a lovely and endearing viewing experience.
