    Sp^2 = ((n1-1)s1^2 +(n2-1)s2^2)/((n1-1)+(n2-1))

    n1=14

    n2=17

    s1=8

    s2=9

    sp^2=[(14-1)8+ (17-1)9]/ 14-1 + 17-1

    =[13*8 + 16*9]/13+16

    =248/29

    =8.55
