What Surrounds The Nucleus?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The nucleus is generally surrounded by the nucleus membrane. According to cell biology, the nucleus basically is a membrane-enclosed organelle seen in nearly all eukaryotic cells.

It comprises of most of the cell's genetic material, prearranged as numerous extended linear DNA molecules in compound with a great assortment of proteins like histones to create chromosomes. The genes inside these chromosomes create the cell's nuclear genome. The main function of the nucleus is to preserve the integrity of these genes and to organize the activities of the cell by modifying gene expression.

Since the nuclear membrane is resistant to nearly all molecules, nuclear pores are essential to permit movement of molecules across the envelope. The nucleus was the primary organelle to be exposed, and was initially explained by Franz Bauer in the year 1802.
