Cats Won't Walk On The Carpet, What To Do?

We have 3 cats. All of a sudden they all refuse to walk on the carpet in the house. They will jump from chair to chair and do anything they can to avoid stepping on the carpet. They used to sleep on the carpet, but now they won't even walk on it. They will sleep fine on chairs or beds, but the carpet seems to be "poison" to them! We are very careful about fleas (they get Frontline on schedule, and we spray and vacuum regularly). Nothing changed in what we use to prevent fleas or clean the carpet.

There can be several factors causing this situation, largely depends on the characteristics of your carpet, maybe your carpet has some repulsive odour for cats or maybe some other chemical substances that cats do not like. You can do more research on the carpet instead of on cats.

Have you used a different chemical on your carpet that the cats may not like to smell?

Nope. See question above ("Nothing changed in what we use to prevent fleas or clean the carpet")

Pick up the cat and place it in the middle of the carpet. It will get used to it really quick. It has to see that the carpet will not hurt it.

Tried that...stands frozen like a statute as if they're going to be attacked, then runs away at top speed. We've put them back several times, petted them, even given them food while on the carpet....no change.
