Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Middle-earth is an ancient term. The phrase is referred to the real world and the livable manor of men. The term "Middle-Earth" also appears a lot in the stories written by J.R.R. Tolkien.

According to Tolkien the Middle-Earth is our Earth, but a fictional time period from the earlier age. He also explains that the region where Hobbits use to reside was "the North-West of the Old World, east of the Sea", which is a clear indication to England and the north-western region of Europe. The past of Tolkien's Middle-earth is separated into various Ages. The Hobbit and the main book of The Lord of the Rings are mainly based on the events that take place towards the end of the Third Age and sum up at the dawn of the Fourth Age. The Silmarillion is based on the First Age.
