There are a lot of things we can do to promote ethical travel. No one wants to be prevented from travelling and learning about other cultures and were all aware of the debates about air travel and pollution, global warming etc.
One book which can help is the Ethical Travel Guide which has alot of information on how we can help.
Many people just aren't aware of the cultural, economic and social impact of tourism on people and animals.
For example if you care about animals don't support for example bull fights or restaurants that provide cruelly produced foods such as frogs legs and fois gras . None of us need to do any of these things and a holiday with a conscience doesn't mean a non -fun holiday.
Some of our favourite destinations are places where people are so impoverished that they barely survive, travellers and tourists don't often see this aspect of other cultures. The profits from visitors often by pass local people who receive no benefit from tourism.
Eco-tourism can help towards the conflict of demands on development versus conservation.
For advice on animal friendly travel see WSPA website at www.wspa.org.uk and for Tourism in general try Tourism Concern at www.tourismconcern.org.uk
An ethical holiday can be a fun holiday too.
