The principle of security was highly discussed in the framework of relations between the Muslim and non-Muslim countries as well as in the relation among the Muslim provinces throughout the Islamic history. Various scholars pondered upon the so-called concept of Dar al Harab and Dar-el-saiam. This concept has been subject to distortion in many ways as it implies that the relations between the two categories of states, the Muslim and non-Muslim, is a relation of war or jehad, which was not the case in most of the Islamic history.

Unfortunately nowadays, the noble concept of Jehad is one of the most misinterpreted, abused and misused, principles of Islam by the Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Without overlooking the wars launched by Muslims against some neighboring countries in the beginning of Islamic history to spread Islam out of the Arabia peninsula, one had to analyze the reasons and motivations behind these wars. The most predominant reason was the spread of Islam in a missionary and zealous way in the neighboring areas which led to a negative reaction from the rulers of these countries. So Muslims had to defend themselves against such aggressive reaction to their endeavor to spread the word of God in a peaceful way.
