Can You Grow Herbs In Hanging Baskets?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hanging baskets are a wonderful place to grow herbs. Many herbs like hot, dry and sunny conditions and even if your garden cannot offer this easily you will probably find a location for a hanging basket that is entirely suitable. Although bushy herbs such as sage and rosemary can grow very big they can start life in a basket to be planted in larger pots or the ground when they outgrow this space. Established perennial herbs such as marjoram, lemon balm and thyme can also grow into quite big clumps but will survive happily in a restricted space for several seasons. Softer herbs such as flat leaf parsley and basil will need watering carefully as they do not like to be too dry and will droop quickly if the compost dries out. Their leaves will also suffer more in windy conditions quickly becoming bruised and torn. Mint is so invasive that treating it is an annual and keeping it confined to a pot or hanging basket is a really good option. Just remember that all plants in pots and baskets need regular feeding.
