What Does It Mean To "Restage" Breast Cancer?

I tested positive for BRCA 1. Because of those results, my doctor wants to do a CT scan of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, and also to restage the cancer. I was diagnosed 5 1/2 years ago, and have not had a recurrence that I know of. My treatment included mastectomy, chemo, radiation, tamoxifen and arimidex. What exactly does "restaging" mean?

Staging is the process in which doctor determines the stage of the cancer in the body and the location of the cancer. If a cancer comes back after treatment then re-staging is used to determine extent of the disease. For more information, click here
